Frigg has gained recognition worldwide and, over the past 20 years, has conquered the folk and world music scene. The band is a constellation of Finland’s foremost and best folk musicians of this generation, combining their deep Nordic roots with Western folk music and Bluegrass. The result is Frigg’s unique and exceptional sound, playfully dubbed “Nordgrass.”
Four violins, mandolin, cittern, guitar, and double bass come together in a sparkling and high-energy show polished to perfection, leaving a lasting impression on listeners around the world.
The band consists of an established ensemble of four violinists, string instruments, and a double bass. In 2002, the band released their long-awaited debut album, which led to Frigg becoming a popular topic of discussion in Nordic folk music circles.
Frigg is a band in constant motion and development. Their music is vibrant and is often enriched by external inspiration and innovation. The band’s audience is amazed by their ability to transport the listener from traditional Finnish polkas, Bluegrass, and Balkan rhythms to dynamic classical elements, as if there were multiple bands on stage at the same time! Frigg manages to transform their concerts into a theatrical experience, offering the audience a well-deserved break from the grayness of the world.
The passion and enthusiasm that erupted at the Pelimannitalo over two decades ago still fuels Frigg, and the band continues its upward trajectory toward its 25th anniversary in 2025, promising a twelfth album and much new and delightful content!
