They have been praised for their ability to captivate the audience with their tightly interwoven voices. A concert with the colorful and unique Långbacka/Bådagård is like stepping into a truly special musical universe where genre boundaries are challenged and tradition meets progression!
After the success of their latest album “Every Little Whisper Turns Into a Roar” and relentless touring, both domestically and abroad, the duo has been diligently working on music for film and performing arts for a couple of years. They’ve even managed to release two film soundtracks, including one for Camilla Läckberg’s movie “Glaciär .” In the spring of 2024, they will release their highly anticipated album. It will be called “ROOTS” and will be a thematic story about the search for just that. On their previous albums, Långbacka/Bådagård drew inspiration from the world, examining the impact on individuals during times of refugee crises, Me Too manifestations, the COVID years, and climate crises.
This album, on the other hand, is about a longing to turn inward. To spend time with the big, complex questions surrounding parenthood, generational bonds, spirituality, and identity. Roots.
– Roots can be about one’s own root system, where have I rooted myself in the world? Who came before me and what did they mean to me? What do I pass on to my children and my surroundings? Who am I, and where am I going with all these difficult questions? says Matilda Bådagård.
Musically, Långbacka/Bådagård state that with the new album, they want to offer a real musical explosion. The duo has created its own genre somewhere in the melting pot of pop, jazz, world music, traditional folk music, and film music and refined their sound for each new production.
With “ROOTS,” they’re thinking bigger, rawer, and more explosive. While they previously played almost all the instruments themselves on their albums, they have now invited their idols to participate, and many well-known musicians are featured on the new album.
– This time, it was important for us to invite other musicians and be inspired by other musical worlds and engage more in live sessions. We recorded parts of the album in Benny Andersson’s studio at Riksmixningsverket. The studio has a very special atmosphere, and we believe we’ve found a great live nerve and musical communication with our fellow musicians, Maja Långbacka explains.
